The residence is built in maple, chosen for its strength, fine grain, and the way it carries light. Solid maple gives the frame its strength, holding the residence square and true.

Broad surfaces are maple panels, glued from matched boards and floating in grooves so the wood can move with the seasons. And the arched roof is bent laminated maple, thin layers pressed together into its curve.

A Canadian woodwork shop makes the wood parts. The Atelier seals, finishes and assembles each residence by hand.

Solid wood doesn’t rattle. The wall panels sit on spacers that stop them rattling, and the floor is glued in all the way round, so it won’t creak.

The latches, hardware, and details are solid polished brass, designed by the founder and made for the PupHut residence alone. Solid brass, not plated.

The metal you touch is the metal all the way through, so there’s nothing to wear thin or flake off. It just ages, the way real brass always has, softening and deepening wherever your dog meets it directly.

Hardware is fitted with concealed mounts and flush fittings. Concealed where it should be, celebrated where it deserves to be.

The door windows, and the Landing, the residence’s floor tray, if you choose one, are recycled cast acrylic, clear and tough, and given a second life rather than made new. It carries light and keeps a sightline to the dog inside, and unlike glass it stays light to move and holds up to a life lived against it.

We do not use animal-derived materials, and there's no wool, down, leather or silk anywhere in The Bed. The residence carries no leather, wool, silk, or down, anywhere.

What a PupHut residence is made of

Every PupHut residence is designed so air can move through it. Arched windows on both side walls bring air and light in at your dog’s height, five slim openings a side on Petite to Medium and six on Midi and larger, each proportioned to the wall it lives in, with a low louvre beneath them.

Each door carries the same halo of louvres as the back wall, and the back wall carries a full louvre field, top, sides, and bottom, so air can come in low and leave high rather than sit in the residence. No fans, no hum, just architecture.

Every material is chosen with your dog’s wellbeing in mind, from zero- and low-VOC finishes to surfaces meant to be cleaned and lived with easily.
