Finishes & Materials
A PupHut residence is made of three honest materials, solid maple, solid brass, and recycled cast acrylic. Nothing is disguised as something else, and nothing is finished to be forgotten. This page is about the choices you make among them, the colour your residence wears, the finish it carries, and the details it will hold onto for years.
The finish, outside and in
Every residence is sealed natural maple within. The surface your dog lives against is wood, warm and honest and finished in its own right, and it stays that way on every commission without exception. We keep the interior natural for a reason beyond beauty. Sealed maple wears quietly, letting the ordinary marks of a life lived indoors settle into the grain rather than stand out against paint.
The colour, then, is the exterior’s to wear. A Signature residence may be painted, or left as the maple itself, clear-sealed. Heirloom keeps both and widens the palette. The interior is always natural maple, on every path.
The palette
The palette is deliberately small, and it is a real system, colours composed for maple, tiered by path, released with restraint. Signature carries the core of the palette. Heirloom widens it. Bespoke opens Atelier Colour, a colour composed with you, for your room. And from time to time a seasonal Capsule colour appears, released quietly and, in time, retired.
We share the palette in the commission conversation rather than printing swatches here. Paint on maple is its own thing; it deserves to be seen truly, not approximated on a screen.
Choose the colour slowly. The residence will wear it for a long time.
What the finish is made of
Finishes are water-based, vegan throughout, and zero to low-VOC, chosen for the one who sleeps inside. What a dog lives against for years should be chosen as carefully as anything else in the home. Every surface carries the same finish schedule, inside and out, on every path. No residence leaves the Atelier with less than another.
The brass
The brass is left bare. No lacquer, no coating, ever. It is a living finish, and it deepens where hands and paws know it best, and it can always be brought back bright. Nearly every brass detail is made to lift off undamaged, so the residence can be cleaned, refreshed, and served for a lifetime without a mark left behind.
The acrylic
The clear panels, the door windows and The Landing that protects the floor, are recycled cast acrylic. The pieces most exposed to daily life are the easiest to renew. They lift out by hand, no tools, nothing a dog can work loose, because the fit is geometry rather than hardware.
