The Residence
The PupHut residence is furniture-grade, made for indoors, and carries crate functionality for suitable dogs and households. It is an indoor dog residence built to stand in the room like the furniture around it, and built, first, for the dog who lives inside it.
The arch
The roof is one continuous curve of bent laminated maple, its radius fixed at exactly half the residence's width on every size. Height is added only where a standing dog needs it, at the centre, so the residence offers real headroom without the bulk of a taller box. And because the roof curves across the width from front to back, a dog standing anywhere along the centreline gets the same full height, at the door or at the back wall.
One composed shape
Every arched element begins curving at the same height, the door, the windows, the back wall's top rail and the roof, on one shared line called the springline. That is why a PupHut residence reads as one composed shape and never a box. It is a fact of construction rather than a styling trick. The curve also means the roof has no flat plane anywhere. Nothing gets set on top and nothing gets spilled, so the residence stays a residence.
A quiet space of their own
Solid maple walls hold the sides and back, the windows are sized to the dog each size is built for rather than enlarged to decorate a wall, and the whole interior keeps to one rule. Nothing visible to work at, nothing sharp, and no hardware showing anywhere a dog lives.
Air and light
One narrow louvre line runs at a single height round the doors, both side walls and the back wall, machined to the same datum so that it reads as one line. On the back wall that line becomes the bottom of a composition the Atelier calls the Framed Halo, two verticals and two arcs standing above it with a gap left open at the apex. Warm air rises and finds the high openings. Cooler air is drawn in low to take its place. It is the oldest mechanism in building science working at a dog's scale, and it is the louvres that do it rather than the shape of the roof.
The doors
The two doors close into one composition, their meeting stiles cut from the same board and the latch halves closing into one circle. Open, each door swings fully back to rest alongside the residence and holds wherever you leave it, so an open door is never in the way. And behind the keyhole the maple is relieved so the Resident's Key sits deep into the door itself, so the residence is built for the moment the Key fits.
