Our Story

The belief

PupHut began with a belief - the dog who lives in your home deserves a home of their own, built with the same care, the same materials, and held to the same standards as the room it stands in.

A dog’s place should belong in the home, quiet and protected, and every bit as intentional as the rest of it. Never an afterthought in the corner.

The search

For Michelle, it began with three dogs, Tucker, Paisley, and Maya. She wanted a home for them she would love to look at, one that was theirs alone, and above all comfortable and safe. She looked. What she found was wire and plastic, or furniture that looked the part but was neither made to last nor made for a dog to truly rest in. Nothing she wanted for her dogs, or her home. So she decided to build it herself.

The arch

The signature arch came first. Dogs seek calm, enclosed places by instinct, and the arch answers that instinct: a taller, more gracious shape that lets a dog stand tall, stretch, turn, and settle, with air and light moving through. Shaping a tight, durable arch that holds its line through dry winters and humid summers, with no exposed hardware anywhere, took countless drawings and attempts in the workshop. It is the line every PupHut is built around.

The standards

Before PupHut, Michelle spent seven years leading the national association behind the standards for architectural woodwork in Canada. That discipline runs through the Atelier. Every residence is built by hand in Canada from carefully chosen materials such as solid maple, solid polished brass, and recycled acrylic. With furniture-grade joinery, each residence meets or exceeds the North American Architectural Woodwork Standards. Every material is chosen with your dog’s wellbeing in mind: vegan throughout, with zero to low-VOC finishes.

“Because every dog deserves to stand tall.”

The Atelier

The PupHut Atelier is a woman-owned Canadian studio. Founded in Edmonton, Canada, 2023. Every residence is commissioned, built, and finished by hand, one at a time, for one Resident.

What comes next

The first residences will be commissioned in a small opening release. One of them could be built around your dog. The Atelier List hears first.
