What is a PupHut residence?
A PupHut residence is a home of their own for the dog who lives in your home, built like fine furniture. Maple, solid polished brass, and recycled acrylic, vegan throughout, made by hand in Canada.
How is a PupHut residence built?
Every residence is built by hand in Canada, in solid maple and solid polished brass, with furniture-grade joinery. One discipline runs through everything at the Atelier. Build it to last, and be honest about how it is made.
What makes the design different?
The softly arched silhouette gives your dog room to stand tall. Slatted ventilation and arched windows keep air and light moving. Hardware is concealed and the brass is custom. And nothing rests on an arch. No books, no cups, no clutter overhead. The roof keeps the space beneath it theirs alone, quiet and undisturbed. What materials are used and how are they chosen?
Maple, solid polished brass, and recycled acrylic, all vegan, with zero- and low-VOC finishes applied by hand. Every material is chosen with your dog’s wellbeing in mind and for how it lasts, with natural and recycled materials where they serve best and every surface made to be cleaned and lived with easily. Where is a PupHut residence made?
Every residence is commissioned, built, and finished by hand at The PupHut Atelier in Canada.
Is there a showroom, or can I see a PupHut residence in person?
The PupHut Atelier is a private studio, not a public showroom. The Atelier plans pop-up appearances in select cities as commissioning opens, expanding to more locations over time. The Atelier List hears first about any in-person opportunity.
Is It Right for My Dog?
Is a PupHut residence a crate?
A PupHut residence offers crate functionality for suitable dogs and households, but it is not a wire crate or a travel crate. It is built as a piece of furniture, made to be seen. The full answer is in What is an indoor dog residence?
Is an indoor dog residence safe for my dog?
Materials and finishes are chosen with your dog's wellbeing in mind, and the construction is solid wood, custom brass, and concealed hardware, built for long-term indoor use with proper care. No wood is chew-proof and no home is right for every dog. Suitability depends on your dog’s size, temperament, and history, which is why every commission begins with a suitability review.
What is the difference between an Open and a Private Residence?
An Open Residence has no door. It is an always-open home for the dog who simply wants a place of their own. A Private Residence adds double doors that swing a full 270 degrees and rest flat against the sides, for the dogs and households that benefit from a closed door.
Is a PupHut residence right for my dog?
A PupHut residence is intended for suitable dogs and careful introductions. A residence works best for dogs already comfortable resting in a calm indoor space. It is not intended for dogs who chew, scratch, panic, or attempt to escape confinement. The Atelier reviews suitability with you before any residence is made.
Is a PupHut residence good for anxious dogs?
A PupHut residence can provide a calm, den-like place to rest if your dog accepts it, but it is not a treatment for anxiety or separation distress. Dogs with anxiety or confinement panic may need support from a qualified trainer, behaviour professional, or veterinarian.
Can I use a PupHut residence for travel?
No. A PupHut residence is designed for indoor home use only. It is not a vehicle crate, airline crate, shipping crate, or travel-rated carrier.
Sizes & Finishes
What sizes are available?
The PupHut residence is made in eight sizes, from the Size 1 — Petite to the Size 8 — Estate. Each size is drawn alongside the others, then made one at a time, and released when it is right; the sizes not yet released are marked on the size guide. Sizing is based on your dog’s length, standing height and room to turn, not weight alone. See the full size guide.
What colours and finishes can I choose?
Each residence is finished in a curated palette of PupHut paints and finishes, chosen so the residence belongs in the room it lives in. Your palette options are presented during your commissioning consultation.
The Three Paths
What are the Signature, Heirloom, and Bespoke Paths?
Every PupHut residence is commissioned along one of three Paths, and all three are built the same way, by hand, in solid maple and solid brass.
The Signature Path is the complete residence in the soft colours, warm white, warm greige, warm khaki, or the maple left exactly as it is. Made with the restraint of fine furniture, so the room stays calm and your dog is the thing you notice in it.
The Heirloom Path is the same residence with the whole palette open to it, the soft colours and six deeper ones, steel grey, deep warm brown, deep navy, deep forest green, deep wine and near black, standing on solid brass feet, with brass laid across the doors. Made with the confidence of fine furniture, so the room holds something beautiful whether your dog is in it or out.
The Bespoke Path is drawn with you, around one dog and one room, in your colour and your details. A few each season, by application.
Can I choose a custom colour for my residence?
Yes, through Atelier Colour. On the Heirloom Path, you can supply a paint manufacturer’s colour name and code, or a physical painted sample, and your residence is matched to it, with two to three additional weeks added to your timeline. Atelier Colour is included on the Bespoke Path, along with colour creation from a photo, fabric, or object you provide. The Concierge confirms cost and timeline as part of your commission.
Commissioning & Pricing
How much does an indoor dog residence cost?
Pricing will be shared when commissioning opens. Every PupHut residence is built to commission, one at a time.
How do I begin a commission?
When commissioning opens, every commission will begin with a commission deposit of $250 Canadian, or $200 US in the United States, credited in full toward your residence. Your Resident’s Key will ship as a gift within five business days, and your commission will open from there. The Atelier List hears first.
What is the Resident’s Key?
The Resident’s Key is a numbered key in solid brass that ships as a gift when your commission deposit is placed. It marks the beginning of your commission and holds your place with the Atelier, and it is yours to keep regardless of what follows.
When does my commission begin?
Your commission will open as soon as your deposit is placed. If you know exactly what residence and finishes you want, you will be able to configure your commission online straight away, with no need to wait for your Key to arrive. If you prefer to take your time, the standard window is 90 days from the date of deposit. If you mark your order as a gift at checkout with a delivery address different from your billing address, the window extends to 365 days.
How long does a commission take?
Build time depends on your commission and the current Atelier schedule. Your Concierge will share a timeline when your commission is confirmed. Contact the Concierge with any questions.
Shipping, Gifting, Warranty & Refunds
Where does the Atelier ship?
The Atelier ships to Canada and the United States. If you are outside these countries, write to the Concierge and we will explore options for your location.
Can I give the Resident’s Key as a gift?
Yes. When commissioning opens, you will be able to mark your order as a gift at checkout, and the Key will ship to the recipient. The commission window extends to 365 days. The Key and any future commission belong to the household it is given to.
What happens if I change my mind?
The commission deposit will be refundable for ninety (90) days from purchase, in full. A full commission will be refundable until its three-business-day change window closes and the residence releases to the workshop; from that moment it is final sale. Beyond the refund window, your deposit continues as a credit toward your residence that never expires.
Is there a warranty on my PupHut residence?
Yes. Every completed PupHut residence includes a One-Year Limited Warranty from the date of delivery, separate from the commission deposit refund window above. It covers defects in materials, craftsmanship, and approved hardware under normal indoor use, but it is not a promise that the residence is chew-proof, scratch-proof, or escape-proof; normal wear, pet-caused damage, and unauthorized repairs are not covered.
What if something goes wrong with my residence?
Contact the Concierge with your order details, clear photos or video, and a brief description of what happened. The Atelier aims to review warranty claims within 3 to 5 business days, and where an issue is confirmed as covered, the remedy may include repair, replacement parts, replacement, credit, or refund, depending on the issue.
The Atelier List & First Residents
What does joining the Atelier List mean?
A place in line for news, nothing more. No deposit, no commitment. You hear first about new commissions, Capsule releases, and news from the Atelier.
Who are the First Residents?
The First Residents hold Keys 001 through 050, the first fifty commissions placed with the Atelier. It is a one-time designation, given once and never recreated.
