Care

A PupHut residence is furniture-grade, made to live in a home the way a fine piece of furniture does, and cared for the same way. It is an indoor piece, kept in a stable room, cleaned gently and promptly, and treated with the everyday attention any hand-finished object rewards. Nothing about its care is difficult. Most weeks ask for little more than a soft cloth. This page is the place to return to when you want to know exactly how.

The maple and its finish

Wipe finished surfaces with a soft, slightly damp cloth, and dry any dampness promptly. Lift loose hair with a soft brush or a handheld vacuum. That is nearly all the maple ever needs. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach, ammonia, solvents, steam, and standing moisture, which can alter a hand-finished surface. The finishes are chosen with the dog in mind, zero to low-VOC throughout, waterborne, and made to be lived against. Small marks, a softening of sheen, and the gentle record of daily life are part of a real finish on real wood, not a flaw. Meaningful cracking, peeling, or unusual wear should be shared with the Atelier for review.

The brass, a living finish

Every PupHut residence carries brass left bare and polished, with no lacquer or coating anywhere. This is deliberate. Bare brass is a living finish. It darkens where hands and paws touch it most, keeping a quiet record of your household, and it can be brought back to bright whenever you choose. Clean it gently with a soft, dry cloth. There is nothing to reseal and no coating to wear through, only brass, doing what brass has always done.

The acrylic, The Landing and the door windows

The clear panels, the door windows and The Landing floor tray, are recycled cast acrylic. Care for them with a microfibre or very soft cotton cloth and, if needed, warm water with a little mild soap. Avoid paper towel, abrasive sponges, and ammonia- or alcohol-based sprays, which can cloud acrylic over time. The door panels lift out by hand for cleaning, with no tools, no visible fixings, and nothing a dog can work loose, because the fit is held by geometry rather than hardware.

The bed

Your Resident's Dream Bed arrives with its own Care and Preservation Booklet, which covers every layer, the wash rhythm, and exactly what to do the morning after an accident. Keep it near the bed. When you have a bed-care question, that booklet is your first place to look.

Cleaners and the care kit

The maple and brass ask only for a soft cloth. For the bed's washable layers, use a gentle, plant-based detergent free of softeners, brighteners, and bleach. The Atelier is preparing a small curated care kit. When it is ready, we will write to you.

Replacement and repair over a lifetime

A PupHut residence is built to be serviced rather than replaced. The acrylic panels lift out and can be renewed. Hardware is set into brass threaded inserts rather than bare wood, so a hinge, latch, or plate can come off and go back on cleanly for a lifetime. Washable bed layers, the Tailored Cover and the Cloud Wrap, can be re-commissioned when they have earned their rest. When something needs renewing, write to the Atelier. Your Resident Number is the anchor for every service, and we keep the record so you do not have to.

When to reach the Atelier

Please write to us if a residence arrives touched by its journey, if a latch, hinge, foot, or nameplate feels loose, stiff, or misaligned, if the finish shows unusual cracking, peeling, or tackiness, or if an acrylic panel chips or clouds. And write to us for anything you are simply unsure how to clean. Over a long life, a residence may also welcome a refresh, hardware review, or preservation care. These are part of Residence Stewardship, offered where available, and never something we would treat as automatic or unlimited without saying so plainly.

The Atelier stands behind it

We stand behind every residence we make. Each PupHut residence is made by hand at the Atelier in maple, with concealed joinery and no visible fasteners, and it leaves us only when it meets our standard. Every residence carries a one-year limited warranty against defects in its materials and craftsmanship, and if something covered is ever not right, we will make it right.
